SXSW 2017 Quick Notes: Day 1

  • Started the day off right --with Breakfast Tacos, of course.
  • My first full talk was by Christine Herrin, called "It's not ready yet: the perfectionist struggle". Light & motivational.

  • Had lunch at JuiceLand: best smoothie place on Earth.
  • My next panel was all about Blockchain beyond the FinTech industry.

  • Most of the talks I'm interested in have been at the JW Marriott. You basically have to queue up over an hour to get to see anything you want. All those years of dirty music festival training have come in handy.
  • Next up was "Design Sprints: Solving UX Design Problems Fast" by Adam Perlis. It was a quick recap of the Google Ventures book Sprint

  • Ran into a friend from Indianapolis I had not seen in almost a decade. The magic of SXSW in play.
  • Watched the premiere of the Netflix documentary "Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press". Simply incredible and very timely film about the importance of honest journalism today. Do. Not. Miss. when it comes out. (There was a panel with some of the journalist afterwards).

  • Had curly fries at "Los Pollos Hermanos"

  • Went to the "Song To Song"/ Film opening party at Mohawk. Contrary to what I thought, the film was not actually shown.
Finished off the day by seeing some of my best, long time friends in my former city, at my favourite bar: Whisler.
